    Soft surfaces delay frost growth

    Scientists investigated condensation frosting on soft polymer gel substrates

    From aeronautics to power transmission lines or the efficiency of wind turbines – preventing or delaying the frost formation on surfaces is of significant importance in many applications. Scientists from the Center of Smart Interfaces have demonstrated the ability of soft substrates to delay more frost formation compared to other solid surfaces.

    HiWi/Bachelor Arbeit „Herstellung neuer dielektrischen Elastomeraktoren“

    „Herstellung neuer dielektrischen Elastomeraktoren für komplexe Bewegungen einer Oberfläche“

    Im Rahmen einer Kooperation zwischen SLA (Strömungslehre und Aerodynamik) und EMK (Elektromechanische Konstruktionen) wird ein planarer Aktor basierend auf dielektrischen Elastomeren entwickelt, um eine turbolente Strömung durch die Bewegung einer Oberfläche in einem Kanal zu beeinflussen.

    HiWi/Bachelor Arbeit „Entwicklung eines planaren Aktuators“

    „Entwicklung eines planaren Aktuators aus dielektrischen Elastomeren mit integrierten bistabilen Elementen für verbesserte statische und dynamische Eigenschaften“

    Im Rahmen meiner Forschungsarbeit wird ein planarer Aktor basierend auf dielektrischen Elastomeren entwickelt. Planare dielektrische Elastomeraktoren (pDEA) können in einem niedrigen Frequenzbereich oder bei ihrer Resonanzfrequenz sehr große Verformungen erreichen. Das beschränkt praktische Anwendungen, falls Flexibilität benötigt wird.

    Andreas Dreizler, Professor for Mechanical Engineering at the TU Darmstadt, is awarded with the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize 2014 by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG – German Research Foundation).
